Understanding and Addressing Black Racial Trauma in Communities

This course is designed to deepen social workers' understanding of Black racial trauma and its impact on relationship-building within the Black community. This session will explore the philosophical foundations of Black racial trauma, examining its root causes and how it manifests both at the community and individual levels. Participants will gain practical tools and strategies to support Black clients through racial trauma with sensitivity and cultural competence. By the end of the course, you'll be equipped with the knowledge and skills to better serve and empower your Black clients in a meaningful way.

Decolonizing Social Work in Practice: From Theory to Case Application

This course builds on prior foundational sessions and learning to provide a deeper, practice-based exploration of decolonizing social work. Using case studies, participants will learn how to apply key concepts such as cultural safety, relational accountability, and Two-Eyed Seeing in both direct practice and organizational contexts. Attendees will leave with concrete tools, strategies and reflective prompts to strengthen their everyday work with clients and communities.

Loneliness in Newcomer and Immigrant Youth: Impact, Assessment and Early Intervention

Loneliness is on the rise in Canada, with young people and immigrants among the highest risk groups. Yet most interventions focus on older adults, leaving a critical gap in supports for youth and young adults ages 15–34. This session equips social workers and allied professionals with practical tools to better serve youth who are newcomers or have immigrated to Canada experiencing transient or chronic loneliness. Learn how to conduct holistic psychosocial assessments, apply evidence-informed interventions, and strengthen your equity-informed practice with sustainable strategies.
